Enter three numbers - your bill total, tip percentage, and number of people in your group - and get instant results. Works for restaurants, taxis, hotel staff, delivery services, or any situation where tipping applies.

Not sure how much to tip? The worldwide tipping guide below covers standard customs for over 15 countries - because tipping norms vary dramatically: what is expected in the US can be considered rude in Japan.

How to use this tip calculator

  1. Step 1 - Enter Bill Amount: Type the total bill before tip. In countries where a service charge is already included (e.g. France, Italy, UAE), check your bill first - if service compris or service charge included appears, you may not need to tip further.
  2. Step 2 - Set Tip Percentage: Use the worldwide guide below as a reference. Common choices: 10% for adequate service, 15% for good service, 20% for excellent service (US standard). In countries where tipping is not customary (Japan, Australia), 0% is perfectly acceptable.
  3. Step 3 - Enter Number of People: If splitting the bill, enter the number of people in your group. The calculator divides the total (bill + tip) equally. For unequal splits - where people ordered different amounts - calculate each person's share separately.
  4. Step 4 - Read Results: The calculator shows tip amount, total bill, and per-person share. Round up to a convenient number if needed - splitting $23.47 per person is impractical; most groups round to $24 or $25.

What the result means

The output shows gratuity amount, final payable total, and equal per-person split. For countries with service-included billing, verify your receipt before adding extra tip.
